Big Gardening Project

Our Big Gardening project is one of the ways we bring Our BIG CURRICULUM to life. When children grow food, care for living things and create dishes for our Kids Café, they experience learning with purpose and have the opportunity to apply and develop executive functions.

From preparing soil to harvesting crops, pupils follow routines that strengthen planning, memory and organisation. They notice when a plant needs more care, make decisions, adjust their actions and learn to reflect on what is working. These habits help them become confident, self-directed learners across the curriculum.

The garden lets children experience science, DT, geography and history in a practical, hands-on way. They explore plant life cycles, global cuisines, traditional diets and the design process behind preparing food.

Every class grows one crop, nurtures it across the year and transforms it into a dish for Kids Café. This gives pupils a meaningful end point, a real audience and a chance to celebrate creativity, teamwork and independence in a way that truly showcases what we do at Greenacres.
