Greenacres

"Together in belonging, connected by relationships, building futures through our personal strengths."

We are very proud to have opened ‘The Orchard’ at Greenacres.  This is our newly commissioned Local Authority Resource Provision (LARP) for children with an autistic spectrum condition (ASC) and complex needs.

The Orchard at Greenacres Primary school is one of four primary schools in  the Royal Borough of Greenwich to be commissioned to  open a LARP for children with ASD and  additional complex needs  who have met criteria for their Special School, Willowdene,  but have not been able to be placed.  needs and challenges .

The Orchard will be growing throughout this academic year to a totally capacity of 16 children by Easter 2026.

We fully support Royal Greenwich’s  policy on Inclusive Education whereby children are supported within mainstream settings however, for a small proportion of children with more significant needs a Resource Unit may be considered for them a more inclusive environment, supportive of their particular sensory needs and challenges, to deliver specific educational provision.

Our mission is that no child is left out or left behind. We want all our children to thrive holistically in a setting with high aspiration which meets their needs and strives to support them to exceed expectations.

We aim to ensure that:

  • Our focus on communication, social and self regulation skills support children to build the foundational skills needed to access more formal learning, social experiences and independence.
  • Support is personalised to meet children's diverse individual needs within an environment that is inclusive of their particular sensory needs and challenges and allows them to thrive.
  • The learning environment is fun and engaging and every child feels safe, happy and ready to learn
  • Children and parents have a voice in decisions about themselves and about school life which is encouraged, listened to and supported.
  • We acknowledge that learning can look different for everyone, so we look to change our approach to meet the needs of the individual.  Everyone is committed to getting the learning right for all of the children.
  • The curriculum meets children at their individual starting points acknowledging their profiles of strengths and needs and responding to this through their personalised plans.

Admission requests to The Orchard are made strictly through the Local Authorities SEND admissions panels.*

*Entrance criteria: Children will have a diagnosis of ASD (or be on a diagnostic waiting list with clear evidence of social communication difficulties). They may have other comorbid difficulties however these will not be medical.  Children will have met criteria for Willowdene Special school but without a place having been allocated.
